Friends and Allies

Over the last couple of years Sunday Driver and Bakul Bagan Records have worked with some great musicians, creators and mentors.

Beyonder

The band stumbled upon Beyonder at Battersea Arts Cafe on a winter’s night in 2007, looking to shelter from the rain under some of London’s finest poetry. Beyonder’s trippy tales of fortune tellers and alternate realities made him an obvious choice to bring an extra dimension to Sunday Driver’s songs.

Beyonder worked with Sunday Driver for the launch of In the City of Dreadful Night and the recent Decibel show The Clockwork Tiger. The band plans to produce some remixes of the new tracks using works that Beyonder has specifically created for the project.

Kuljit Bhamra (MBE Hon DMus)

Kuljit was first brought to see the band by a mutual friend and fan. After a performance at The Forge in Camden, Joel managed to get over his nerves and hold a conversation with – as described by The London Asian Guardian – “One of “the most prolific and dedicated Asian music producers to come out of Britain”.

Kuljit is a very modest genius and gave us all some very inspiring words. Excitement reached new heights for Sunday Driver in September 2011 when Kuljit stood in for the band’s injured tabla player at The Asylum festival in Lincoln.

Baluji Shrivastav

Baluji was recruited by the band in 2002 to teach them Indian music theory. These meetings led to him teaching Joel sitar, and since then a tight bond has formed between Joel, Chandy and their guru. Baluji was also kind enough to step in for their injured tabla player when Sunday Driver were asked to support Bangalore folk star Raghu Dixit at Norwich Arts Centre in 2011.

Escalator and Arts Council England (East)

It was the support of Arts Council England that led to the creation of Bakul Bagan Records. In 2007 we were approached by Freeness, a world music agency working on behalf of Escalator to source new music to be championed for grants for the arts awards to record and market new music.

After  securing this funding we have continued to work with and be supported by Escalator and the Arts Council. This included a performance of the Clockwork Tiger show at the reknowned Decibel Performing Arts Showcase in September 2011.

Dancing Nikita Company

Nikita Thakrar, the course tutor is a creative “Classical Bollywood” dance choreographer and her students are fortunate to receive a high standard of training in Classical Indian Kathak dance incorporated into Bollywood routines!

Nikita joined us for the Decibel show, she has choregraphed dances for a number of the songs from The Mutiny. Her unique take on Khatak made her an idea choice to bring a different take on traditional dance to Sunday Driver’s live performance.

Evelyn Kriete

Evelyn Kriete is an editor, artist, fashion designer, and social media manager. She has worked closely with various media outlets during their coverage of steampunk, including The New York Times, MTV, NHK, NBC and the San Francisco Chronicle.

She met the band in 2009,  and has been supporting us ever since. Evelyn was a key player in starting our fanbase in the US. She is currently devising and filming a video for one of our new songs Concubine Waltz over in New York City , using funds raised on the crowd sourcing website Kickstarter

High Barn Music

High Barn are a venue/recording studio and label based out in the essex countryside. Sunday Driver have performed a number of shows at the prestigious venue. The last show was recorded (performance included Beyonder and Nikita) and is currently being produced as a DVD to be released by High Barn. BBR intend to release a live EP from the show at Christmas 2011 as well.
